The Catholic bishops of the Belgian region of Flanders want to clear the way for the blessing of homosexual couples against the guidelines from the Vatican. The clergymen responsible, including Brussels' Cardinal Jozef De Kesel, are taking on a pioneering role with this advance in the universal Church. On Tuesday they published a letter entitled "For a welcoming, inclusive church". It also includes a suggestion for appropriate prayers and a church blessing ceremony. But "the difference to what the church understands by a sacrament must remain clear," it says with a view to marriage. Rome had rejected blessings for gays in March 2021.
