Athletics - Mihambo fourth in season finale - Sport

Long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo experienced a small disappointment at the end of the season. The world champion came fourth in the Diamond League final in Zurich with 6.52 meters and missed out on the overall victory of the 13 Diamond League meetings. The $30,000 prize went to European champion Ivana Vuleta from Serbia, who won with 6.97 meters. Mihambo, 28, has been plagued by the consequences of corona disease for weeks. "For me, health comes first, I knew I couldn't start full throttle today," she said on Sky. European javelin champion Julian Weber from Mainz finished third in his competition with 83.73 meters behind Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (88.44) from India. "It was a little out of breath," said Weber. Discus throwers Kristin Pudenz (fourth place/61.45) and Claudine Vita (61.34) had no chance against winner Valarie Allman (USA/67.77). Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce delivered the outstanding performance in the Letzigrund, winning over 100 meters in 10.65 seconds.
