A former member of the Afghan Parliament and her bodyguard have been killed under mysterious circumstances. Mursal Nabisada and her bodyguard were shot dead in the 29-year-old’s apartment in Kabul, police said on Sunday. The motive is unclear. The woman’s brother was injured. About four months ago, Nabisada spoke in a TV interview about the restrictions on women’s rights imposed by the ruling Taliban. At the weekend, they rejected international calls for respect for women’s rights. Nabisada sat in parliament for Kabul before the militant Islamist Taliban took power in August 2021. She had told the broadcaster that she was now working for a non-governmental organization. Other politicians have since left the country. Murders of young women have increased since the Taliban came to power.
