The Bishop of Osnabrück, Franz-Josef Bode, wants to remain in office despite breaches of duty in dealing with victims of sexualised violence. The 71-year-old Catholic priest said on Thursday that he was responsible for "significant deficits and serious mistakes," most of which were made during his tenure. "I myself have acted negligently in some cases." But this was "never with the intention" of "deliberately covering up or bending the law," asserted the head shepherd, who is also deputy chairman of the German Bishops' Conference. This will meet next week for its autumn general assembly in Fulda.
